King County Recorder's Office is where most Seattle-metro couples actually get the license paperwork right. Apply online then finish in person at 201 S. Jackson St., Suite 204 (both applicants), or use mail with notarization. The fee is $169.

Washington requires a three-day wait after issuance and gives you 60 days to hold the ceremony. The couple, officiant, and two witnesses sign the certificate afterward; the officiant returns it within 30 days.

Do not treat the waiting period as optional. Build license day into your timeline before you book flights for out-of-town relatives.
