NYC Adult Protective Services

HRA Adult Protective Services accepts referrals for adults age 18 and older who may be unable to meet basic needs or protect themselves because of physical or mental impairment and lack responsible help. Anyone can refer a person for assessment.

Call 911 for an emergency; APS is the non-emergency city pathway for abuse, neglect, exploitation, and self-neglect concerns. Borough offices and multilingual phone routing are published.

Refer through APS when the situation is urgent but not an immediate life-threatening emergency, and call 911 if safety cannot wait.
