Family events and cultural festivals around Metro Vancouver

Diwali Fest's Vancouver celebration is Saturday, November 7, 2026, from 2 to 5 p.m. at Roundhouse Community Centre, 181 Roundhouse Mews. The organizer describes live music, dance, and chai, and suggests festive clothes.

Attendance is free. The room has a capacity cap, so each person still registers on the Diwali Fest page. The confirmation email arrives a few days before the event.

The Vancouver Christmas Market runs November 16 through December 24, 2026 at Jack Poole Plaza, 1055 Canada Place. From the opening, weekdays start at 4 p.m. and weekends at 11:30 a.m., both through 9:30 p.m. Two pages on the same site disagree after that: the FAQ lists December 19 to 23 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and December 24 from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., and the plan page lists Christmas Eve as 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and moves the mid-run hour change by a day.

A single ticket starts at $7.99 and needs a 30-minute arrival window. You can stay once you are in, and you cannot come back after you leave. Kids 6 and under are free with no ticket, and the FAQ lists an early season pass from $30.99 through November 15 that skips the time slot and has to match a government ID.

The carousel and the 7 p.m. toast are included. Food, drinks, and the huts are extra. Waterfront Station is a short walk, and weekday evenings plus Friday through Sunday are the busy times, especially the last week.

VanDusen Festival of Lights runs November 27, 2026 through January 3, 2027 at VanDusen Botanical Garden, 5251 Oak Street at West 37th Avenue. Hours are 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., with last entry at 9 p.m. The garden is closed December 25.

Tickets go on sale November 4 and have to be bought online for a half-hour entry window. Before tax and service fees, adults are $29, seniors and youth 13 to 18 are $19, children 5 to 12 are $12, children 4 and under are free but still need a reserved ticket, and garden members are $18. Tickets are non-refundable, and the night runs rain or shine with no re-entry.

Tuesday, December 1 is the sensory-friendly night: half the usual capacity, lower sound, and no flashing lights. The garden is on the 17 Oak bus, about a 15-minute walk from Oakridge station. The lot off West 37th is free, and it is small.

Diwali Fest's New Westminster stop is Monday, November 9, 2026, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Anvil Centre, 777 Columbia Street. The organizer calls it a Festival of Lights program with South Asian royal traditions.

Each person registers separately on the Diwali Fest page. The confirmation email comes a few days before the event, not the moment you submit the form. The page does not list a ticket price.

The October 24 Anvil Centre date on an older listing is no longer the one on the organizer page. That older URL now opens this November 9 event. The page also says the date or room can still move if funding or the venue changes, so recheck the link the week you go.

Canyon Lights runs November 20, 2026 through January 10, 2027 at Capilano Suspension Bridge Park, 3735 Capilano Road. The park is open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., closed December 25, and you can stay an hour past close.

Admission covers the lights. Buy a timed entry, 30 minutes on weekends and holidays and one hour on weekdays. Children 5 and under are free at the gate. Anyone under 15 needs a person 18 or older with them.

BC residents can turn one day's admission into an annual pass, then reserve each visit, with fewer pass spots on busy nights. Parking is limited, and a free downtown shuttle runs on peak nights. The bridge, Treetops Adventure, and Cliffwalk are not wheelchair accessible, and wheelchair users are admitted free.

Diwali Fest's Coquitlam gathering is Thursday, November 5, 2026, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Evergreen Cultural Centre, 1205 Pinetree Way. The organizer describes a baithak-style evening of music and dance.

Attendance is free and still needs a registration because the room has a capacity limit. Register each person. The confirmation email comes a few days before, not instantly.

Noël Surrey runs November 27 through December 29, 2026 at the Cloverdale Fairgrounds, 17905 62 Avenue, from 3 to 9:30 p.m. It is closed November 30, December 7, December 24, and December 25.

A ticket covers the Bright Nights light walk, unlimited Ferris wheel rides, and the heated indoor village. Food, drinks, and the market are extra. Kids 6 and under are free. The Burn Fund lists adults from $24 and youth or seniors from $18. The festival site says that price changes by the day, with tax and service charges at checkout, and anyone under 16 needs an adult.

Bright Nights is back at these fairgrounds for 2026, after more than 25 years at Stanley Park. Parking is included, and the map on the festival site is still the 2025 layout.
