The Chinese Cultural Centre of Greater Vancouver Chinese Language School (also called SK Lee Academy) has offered Cantonese and Mandarin classes since 1981, from preschool through advanced levels. Arts electives, camps, and both in-person and online options sit beside the language tracks.

The Chinatown campus at 50 East Pender Street is the flagship site, with additional campuses in Richmond, East Vancouver, Burnaby, Coquitlam, West Vancouver, and North Vancouver. The provider lists more than 300 Cantonese or Mandarin classes across those sites.

Use this when you want weekend or after-school heritage language without changing your weekday school. Check the current term for your campus, level, and camp calendar before you assume a seat is open.

Founded in 1906, Vancouver Japanese Language School is B.C.'s oldest Japanese language school. Annual Saturday and Sunday classes run September through June at 487 Alexander Street for Kinder, heritage speakers, and students learning Japanese as an additional language.

Tracks include Kinder, Heritage for home speakers, and Fundamental or Youth for learners of Japanese as an additional language. Kids camps run on holidays and VSB Pro-D days, with summer camp weeks in the warmer months.

Pick the track that matches how Japanese is used at home. A heritage speaker and a brand-new learner do not need the same Saturday, even if they are the same age.

The Vancouver School Board's Early Mandarin Bilingual pathway at Norquay Elementary runs Kindergarten through Grade 7 with about half the day in Mandarin and half in English. Children both learn Mandarin and study subjects in Mandarin for part of the school day.

Families apply through District Choice processes rather than treating Norquay as an automatic neighbourhood default. For Grades 1 to 7, the district has published an online January to early February window at elemchoice.vsb.bc.ca, and kindergarten has its own registration path.

Read the English language proficiency expectations before you apply. This is a full school-day bilingual model, not a weekend heritage class, so the fit question is whether your child can thrive in that 50/50 rhythm.

Trudeau Elementary hosts the VSB Mandarin Bilingual choice program for Grades 4 to 7. Core subjects stay in English while Mandarin Language Arts builds oral, reading, and writing skills with Chinese characters.

The school is explicit that this is not immersion. Mandarin runs about one hour a day, with conversational Mandarin woven through the day. The pathway continues at Eric Hamber Secondary for Vancouver residents who meet published entry expectations.

Use this when you want sustained Mandarin literacy inside a public school day without committing to a half-day Mandarin curriculum. Confirm District Choice dates and the secondary continuation rules before you plan the middle-school years around it.

χpey̓ is the Vancouver School Board's Indigenous Focus Choice School for Kindergarten through Grade 7. Indigenous and non-Indigenous students from across the district can apply, and there is no neighbourhood catchment boundary.

The Musqueam-gifted name means cedar in hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓. The school centers Indigenous ways of knowing, belonging, and academic goals, with the All Nations Room named as a family gathering space on the school site at East Hastings and Victoria Drive.

Apply through the same District Choice window used for other elementary choice programs. Tour or attend an information session if you can, because the school culture is the point of the choice, not only the schedule.

Chaoyin Bilingual Academy Daycare is a licensed English-Mandarin early learning program on the same Richmond campus as Chaoyin Bilingual Elementary at 10111 Bird Road. It serves children from 30 months to school age during the September-to-June year.

The daycare is designed as a bridge into the school's Kindergarten to Grade 7 Mandarin bilingual pathway. That matters if you want early Mandarin exposure that continues into elementary without switching campuses.

Contact admissions for current tuition and waitlists. Licensed daycare capacity and independent-school entry are separate questions, even when they share a mailing address.

Richmond Continuing Education offers fee-based Mandarin classes for children from age 4 through youth and adult levels. Families can choose read/write tracks in simplified or traditional characters, conversation classes, a Cantonese read/write hybrid with Mandarin speaking, and exam prep.

Classes run in person, online, or hybrid through RichmondCE.ca. That flexibility helps when one sibling needs characters and another needs conversation only.

Treat term fees and section times as moving parts. Confirm the current catalogue before you promise a Saturday routine, and call 604-668-6532 if the online listings leave the level unclear.

Richmond School District French Immersion is designed for non-francophone students seeking functional bilingualism. Early Immersion begins in Kindergarten or Grade 1 with full French through Grade 2, then mostly French through Grade 7. Late Immersion begins in Grade 6.

Elementary sites are named on the district page, and placement follows catchment priorities. When spaces are scarce, the district may use a draw. The pathway continues through Grade 12 for students who stay in the program.

Register with SD38 first, then apply during the published Program Options window. Do not treat Immersion as a same-week add-on to ordinary catchment registration.

Burnaby Schools French Immersion offers Early Immersion entry in Kindergarten or Grade 1 and Late Immersion entry in Grade 6, with continuation through Grade 12. Elementary sites are dual-track schools that also run English programs.

Named Early sites include Aubrey, Brantford, Inman/Cascade Heights, Marlborough, Seaforth, Sperling, and Westridge. Late Immersion lists Armstrong and Marlborough. Families first complete catchment registration, then apply through the District Language Program process, typically in February.

Do the catchment step before you fall in love with a dual-track school name. Burnaby's published sequence is registration first, language-program application second.

North Vancouver School District French Immersion is a Kindergarten to Grade 12 district program without neighbourhood catchment boundaries. Elementary Immersion is offered at Braemar, Cleveland, Dorothy Lynas, Larson, Ross Road, and Sherwood Park, with secondary pathways at Argyle, Handsworth, and Windsor.

When demand exceeds spaces, non-sibling placement is decided by lottery through Central Registration at 2121 Lonsdale Avenue. Early Kindergarten/Grade 1 and Late Grade 6 entry both run through that office.

Ask Central Registration for the current lottery and sibling rules before you assume a North Shore address guarantees a seat. Equity-of-access review is part of how the district describes the program.

Coquitlam School District's Mandarin Bilingual Program of Choice delivers about half the B.C. curriculum in Mandarin and half in English. Elementary entry is at Walton Elementary (2960 Walton Avenue), with continuation through Scott Creek Middle and Gleneagle Secondary.

Families apply during the district Programs of Choice window rather than treating Walton as a neighbourhood default. For 2026-27, the published application window was a short January stretch, so calendar watching matters.

Use this when you want a public 50/50 Mandarin pathway in the Tri-Cities with a clear K-12 ladder. Confirm the current year's dates before you plan around last year's window.

École Gabrielle-Roy is a Conseil scolaire francophone de la Colombie-Britannique public school in Surrey at 6887 132 Street. CSF schools provide francophone education for eligible rights-holder families under Section 23.

That is a different pathway from French Immersion designed for non-francophone learners in English districts. Do not treat Gabrielle-Roy as a drop-in Immersion alternative without checking eligibility.

Start with the CSF school directory and registration guidance. South of Fraser francophone families get a local public option here, but the board and the rules are not SD36 Immersion.

Surrey Schools Early French Immersion starts in Kindergarten, or Grade 1 when space remains, with instruction entirely in French until Grade 3. From Grades 4 to 7 the balance shifts to about 20% English and 80% French.

Kindergarten entry uses a district lottery across named Immersion sites from City Centre to South Surrey and White Rock, including schools such as Riverdale, Simon Cunningham, Martha Currie, Laronde, Pacific Heights, Peace Arch, and Snokomish. Lottery dates for 2026-27 ran in February.

Watch the Programs of Choice calendar rather than ordinary catchment registration. Early Immersion seats are assigned, not assumed, even if you live near an Immersion school.

Surrey Schools offers Punjabi as a four-year language pathway that can meet the provincial second-language requirement instead of French. Students begin in Grade 5 and continue through Grades 6 and 7, with an expectation to stay into Grade 8.

Elementary classes currently list Green Timbers and Beaver Creek, depending on community interest, with secondary Punjabi at Enver Creek and Tamanawis. The program uses the B.C. Punjabi as a Second Language curriculum with a teacher fluent in Punjabi.

Ask the school about current sections before you treat Punjabi as a guaranteed Grade 5 option at every Surrey elementary. Site availability follows interest and staffing, not only the district brochure.

Langley School District Early French Immersion starts at Kindergarten at Belmont and James Kennedy Elementary. Late French Immersion begins in Grade 6 at Alex Hope and Noel Booth.

Entry is by Programs of Choice application, not ordinary catchment registration. Official choice pages state that registration for a following September typically opens in the prior fall.

Watch the APOC / choice-registration window rather than assuming a Langley address places your child automatically. Early and Late Immersion have different entry grades and different school lists.
